In these wild times we are in, it is important for us to have a strong knowledge base in the Bible. Furthermore, it is important for us to learn these things for ourselves and not depend on the opinions and dogmas of others.
One tool I have found helpful is e-Sword – the Sword of the LORD with an electronic edge. This tool provides a way to compare translations of verses as well as easily look up words in concordances.
I first learned about this method of study by watching video commentators use it. I won’t cite the specific commentators here because I believe that it would be a distraction from the key point, which is to help you get the most out of your own study of the Bible. If you search YouTube for Bible commentaries, you are certain to eventually find some in which this tool or tools like it are used.
My suggestion is to compare translations closely and to also look up words, even if you think that you know already what they mean. (You may find some surprises!) It also helps to learn Hebrew and Greek at least well enough so that you can recognize verb conjugations and other basic grammatical forms. A very nice tool for learning languages is Duolingo.
